Education is a senior activity that people know and transform the society. In the activity, the executor is people, the object of education is people, and the evaluation is also the people. Therefore the base of whole educational activities is also inseparable from the relationship between man and man, especially the teacher-student relationship. Today in the new curriculum reform, we need to learn “using the brain to walk and using the feet to think”. We need to change the education idea, and renew the education mean. The establishment of a new type of relationship between teachers and students is increasingly becoming the important content of education reform.
With the support of the modern information technology, the flipped classroom provides new ideas for the College English teaching reform. The combination of Mooc class and flipped classroom change the orientation of class learning for teachers and students, and it make the initiative and the right to decide shift from teachers to students, thus it further establishes student’s main body status. Flipped classroom teaching mode is in line with the teaching rules, which marks a key step in the direction of personalized learning and active learning.(R Jamaludin, Siti Zuraidah and Md Osman, 2014)
Chapter 1 The Theoretical Basis
1.1 The Research on the Relationship between Teachers and Students of the Flipped Classroom Teaching Model
1.1.1 Flipped Classroom Teaching Mode Research Situation at Home and Abroad
The practice and research of “flipped classroom” in the early stage of foreign countries is mainly carried out in American colleges and universities, which emphases on interaction between teachers and students. Flipped classroom brings a good teaching effectiveness. According to the questionnaire survey of 453 teachers adopted flipped classroom by American Education Consulting Firm in 2012, 67% said students’ grades in the standard of examination has improved, 80% thought that students' learning attitude is improved.
As a kind of new teaching mode based on information technology, flipped classroom has been deeply concerned by the educational circles of our country several years ago, and has carried on several exploration and practice. Most scholars believe that flipped classroom allows learners control their own learning and increases interaction in the study, but the way is not fixed. According to preliminary statistics, in the past three years, many provinces, cities and regions of China’s academic journals published have dozens of articles about flipped classroom. Pilot explorations have been carried out in universities, secondary schools and vocational schools. Some effective places are located in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou. Education experts of our country promote flipped classroom teaching mode and explore the suitable teaching reform for China’s conditions.
1.1.2 The Research on the Relationship between Teachers and Students of the Flipped Classroom Teaching Model
The most prominent feature of the flipped classroom is the reversal of knowledge acquisition in class and the internalization of knowledge after class. This model is based on Eric, Mazur’s theory of Harvard University, that learning is divided into two steps: knowledge transfer and knowledge internalization.(Song Yanling, Meng Zhaopeng, Yan Yajuan, 2014)Because the flipped classroom makes the knowledge transfer become autonomic learning before class, the classroom learning becomes the link of knowledge internalization, and the classroom shows the advantage that the traditional classroom does not have. Some researchers believe that the flipped classroom is more fit in with human cognitive law.(Gregory Mason,2013)
Flipped classroom achieve the fundamental change that transfer teacher-centered to student-centered, and pay more attention to the cultivation of students' autonomous learning ability and the English application ability.(Ma Xiulin, Zhao Guoqing, Wu Tong, 2013)Students watch the micro video before class, understand and master the basic knowledge of English language and culture. After the completion of related homework about the knowledge, their roles and teachers’ roles have changed in the class. Students in the classroom learning, is to discover learning, rather than receiving learning. The study is not a simple demonstration of the conclusion, but under the guidance of teachers that students explore the learning.(Chen Zhengying, Huang Shengsheng, 2004)The focus of English teaching has changed from imparting knowledge to guiding students to apply the knowledge learned in the class. Students are not the passive recipients of the traditional teaching mode, but they become active learners. Through the implementation of the flipped classroom teaching mode, students' learning scores is improved, the learning efficiency is improved, and the relationship between teachers and students is more harmonious, which is developed into a new teacher-student relationship.
